Stephenson is a nationally recognized Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeon
(oculoplastic surgeon is an alternative term) who specializes exclusively
in cosmetic and functional surgery of the eyelids and surrounding
areas. He has been repeatedly listed among the Top Specialists in
the U.S. He is Board Certified in Ophthalmology with advanced training
in Oculoplastic Surgery at the University
of California San Francisco.
He has been Vice-President of the American
Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and
is a member of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of
the Royal Society of Medicine, London.
He is the Editor of a major medical book in his specialty, Ophthalmic
Plastic Reconstructive and Orbital Surgery) ,which is used as
a reference by doctors in training and other physicians. He was
a founding member of the editorial board of the Journal
of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and has contributed
to other medical books and journals. He has served as Associate
Clinical Professor and Chief of the Oculoplastic
Surgery service at the University of California, San Diego,
and Clinical Professor and Section Chief at Loma
Linda University Medical Center. He has also served on the consulting
staff of the Naval Regional
Medical Center, San Diego and the Veterans Hospital, La Jolla.

Stephenson not only has an excellent relationship with dermatologic
surgeons, but with other members of the plastic surgery community
and works with them in managing surgical conditions that would benefit
from a multi-specialty approach. Doctor Stephenson is an active
member of the Senior Medical Staff of Scripps
Hospital, La Jolla.
